(Witness) Biography1881 Samuel Wamsley was mentioned in the biography of William G Wamsley: William Maensley (sic) was born in Virginia in 1785, where he married Nancy Bussel. She died, leaving six children, in Miami, in 1822. He came to this State in 1815, but had lived for a time previously in Boone county, Kentucky. His first Ohio settlement was made at North Bend, on the farm now the property of Charles Short. In politics he was an Old Line whig. He died in Ripley, Indiana, in 1837. He had six children: James, at present in Texas; Moses B., now married to Eunice Hayes; John B.(sic, William B., married to Mary J. Ingraham; Eliza, the wife of David Jones, of Indiana; Samuel, married to Catharine Gronendike; and Stephen W., married to Mary Vangorder, and a resident of Indiana at the present time. in 1881.2 
Residence8 April 1884  In 8 April 1884 Samuel Wamsley resided at Roodhouse, Greene Co., Illinois. He was in Roodhouse, Greene, Illinois 8 Apr 1884 (he signed stmt then), for 3-4 years per Argos in pension Sep 1892. (Argos was also Adm when daughter Anna died.) On 19 Mar 1998 I sent letter to Hist/Gen Soc to ask why he might have been there. I got back a letter saying "The only Wamsley we have on James Knox Wamsley, I am sending it on to you." What they sent is a "verdict of jury" in the matter of the inquisition on the body of James Knox Wamsley deceased, held at Carrolton on 21 Mar 1885 (verdict was an embolism, so natural causes). Could James be his father's brother? 
Residence1887  In 1887 Samuel Wamsley resided at Hamilton Co., Ohio. City Directory (Evd 765) shows him as a blacksmith, residing on Miami Ave. 
Census1900*1900 He appeared on the 1900 census as the head of household, ED 299 pg 80a #76-82, Cleves - Miami Township, Hamilton Co., Ohio, along with Catharine Groendyke. His info on the census included Wamsley, Samuel 79 b.OH Aug 1820, marr 56 years. 
Death*24 February 1903 Samuel Wamsley died on 24 February 1903 at Cleves - Miami Township, Hamilton Co., Ohio, at age 82 Not in Hamilton Co Death Records (SLC 355118.) 
Burial* He was buried at Berea aka Maple Grove Cemetery (in Hooven), Cleves - Miami Township, Hamilton Co., Ohio, Hamilton Co "Record of Registration of War Veterans Graves" (Evd 744) has him listed, and there is a marker on his grave. 
(Witness) CAUTION He and Catharine Groendyke, William G Wamsley, Nancy Bussell, Moses S Bussell, Nicholas Groendyke and Lydia Garrison, Thomas Maddux Wamsley: has the following CAUTIONARY INFORMATION: On 04 Mar 1929, Thomas Maddux Wamsley wrote a letter. It has a number of errors that must be addressed. Be sure to read it.3
