Worked as a blacksmith (Sources: various census records). Children: Edmund C Hays born 1834 in IN, Elizabeth Hays born 1836 IL, James Thomas Hays born 1838 Danville, IL, Mary M Hays born 1840 in IN, Elmus F Hays born 1848 in IN, and Gilly Hays born in 1850 in IN (Sources: 1850 Census). James N Hays and Susanna died in Limestone County, TX in 1883 and 1882 respectively (Sources: Cemetary records and photos of grave site). Do not have any further info on Edmund C, Elizabeth, Elmus, or Gilly. James Thomas Hays enlisted in the Civil War in New Orleans, LA in 1861. He served in the Wheat's Battalion. He was in Wilson County, TN in 1862 and married Bettie Elizabeth Kindred. He was in MS in 1867 and on to Limestone County, TX by 1870. Mary M Hays and Adam Shriver are in Limestone County, TX census records 1880. Mary M Shriver is buried close by James N Hays and Susanna Hays in Limestone County, TX. Have talked to others doing research on the Hays, Dragoo, and Straight lines, and we all believe my Hays line is descended from James Hays and wife Elizabeth Dragoo. Would like to find other researchers of these lines to correspond with.
