Birth*10 April 1863 James Ellsworth Ferrell was born on 10 April 1863 at White Day, near Smithtown, Monongalia Co., West Virginia, There is a conflict of dates. His brother Napoleon gives 8 Oct 1861 as James birthdate., and shows a sister (Mittie) born in Mar 1863. However, James gives his own birthdate as 10 Apr 1863, which conflicts with the sister. James surely knows his own birthdate, but it makes for questioning Napoleon's dates of his siblings.1,2 
Occupation*between 1885 and 1890 He was County Superintendant of Schools between 1885 and 1890 at Calhoun Co., West Virginia.3 
Marriage*18 July 1889 He married Mollie Fling on 18 July 1889 at Burnt House, Ritchie Co., West Virginia.4 
Biography* James Ellsworth Ferrell had a biography: writes on his FGS "His parent moved to Yellow Creek, Calhoun Co., W.Va., when he was very small. Here he grew to manhood and was educated in the public schools of his county. He entered the profession of teaching, and taught in all the districts of the county; was superintendant of schools of Calhoun County from 1885 to 1889. In 1889 he removed from Grantsville, Calhoun Co., to Burnt House, Ritchie Co., W.VA., where he engaged in the mercantile business for 35 years. During that interval of time he was postmaster at Burnt House for 12 years. In the spring of 1923 he sold his business and retired, moving to Parkersburg, W.Va.5 
Residence*24 February 1936  In 24 February 1936 James Ellsworth Ferrell resided at Brandywine Summit, Chester Co., Pennsylvania. His residence when he filled out FGS for both himself, and for his parents/siblings.6
