| Religion | 1832-1847, Kentucky, Elijah Jeffries commenced his ministry among the churches of this Association [South KY Assoc of Separate Baptists, No. 2], not far from 1832, and for many years, was one of the most influential preachers of the body. He was Moderator of the Association from 1842 to 1847. At first, he favored the proposed union with the United Baptists, in 1842, but afterwards strenuously opposed it. It was thought to be his influence that prevented the union, and came so near destroying the Association. He labored something near twenty years in that region. The author has no account of him, at a later date.2 | |

Harvey's father was Frank H Jones (Supposition: Frank of 1864-1922 was probably brother of Harvey and they were sons of another Frank). There is also a George, brother to Harvey who served in WWI. As the water built up, it took over the area that had been Cannonsville, Rock Rift, Rockroyal, and Granton. In 1984, the State Senator was Charles D Cook who was born in Tompkins. | Biography | Commemorative Biographical Record of Harrison Ohio (Beers 1891, my Evd 1245). Jacob Jarvis, county surveyor and deputy sheriff of Harrison County, was born in Kirkwood Township, Belmont Co Ohio in January 1815. His father, Philip Jarvis, a native of Baltimore County MD, moved from there, about the year 1811, to Belmont County Ohio where he entered a farm and married Mary Barnett, of Baltimore County MD, who bore him eight children, four of whom are now living, one in Fairview, Guernsey Co Ohio, two in Missouri and one (our subject in Harrison County, Ohio. The mother died in Belmont County in 1855, at the age of sixty-six years, and shortly after that event Philip Jarvis moved to Harrison County, where he died at the residence of his son, Jacob, in 1866, at the age of eighty-one years. The paternal grandfather of our subject, also named Philip, was a native American of German descent, as was also the maternal grandmother, the great-grandparents on both sides having been born in Germany. | Marriage | 3 November 1798 | Elizabeth Durke; Jefferson Co., Kentucky, Nov 3 1798 Davd Spangler & Davd Huckleberry to M Bond Governor Eliz Durke This is to certify that I am satisfied that David Spangler should have my daughter and that license should be issued according to the law this shall be your faithfull discharge from me given under my hand and seal this 3rd day of November 1798. It's signed Elizabeth Neal and witnessed by Warden Pope. Marriage Register (from Filson Club records) shows David Spangler and Eliza Durk license date 3 Nov [1798] and marriage date "do." from the previous line with says November 13t. Who married them is blank. Previously, the names made things confusing because Elizabeth's mother was named Neal. However, subsequent research by Peggy Willmering of Spokane WA, showed that Elizabeth's mother was widow of a Durke, and married Thomas Nealle, explaining the confusion. per 1903 news article "Elizabeth Derische, who became the wife of David, was also his first cousin. She had one sister, Esther Postlethwaite, and three half-sisters, Polly Carr, Nancy Carr and Sarah Bowman. No brothers". Need to check this out1,2 |
| Note | William Spangler; Bio of Simon, David's son, William's grandson, says "His father, G. F. Spangler, was of German descent, and was a soldier in the old colonial Indian wars. He was a noted marksman and wrester, and on one occasion he was captured by the savages, but escaped after being a prisoner for six months." However, G.F. doesn't match either David or William's name. Without a more specific date of the wars, either of them could be the soldier to whom the bio refers. | |
| Military | 12 February 1799 | Per KY State Historical Society Register v.30 pg.11 (referred to, not looked up) David was made an Ensign on this date.3 |
| (Witness) Deed | 7 August 1799 | Margaret (__________); Jefferson Co., Kentucky, John & Margaret Abbott to David Spangler, 100 acres, being part of the land held in right of the dower of Margaret as widow and relict of William Spangler. It appears that John & Margaret Abbott left their older children in Kentucky. Milly may have become acquainted with Peter Peckinpaugh through Henry Peckinpaugh, Peter's uncle, though only 4 years older, who was married to Catherine Spangler. The book also says "How, or whether Catherine Spangler was related to William Spangler is not known. She was the daughter of George & Mary C Spangler, and married Henry 17 May 1804 in Jefferson Co KY." However, the Catherine who married Henry is the daughter of William & Margaret, not a George & Mary.4 |

| Deed | 18 August 1802 | Jefferson, Clark Co., Indiana, On 18 Aug 1802 Richard Terrell and Lucy his wife sold land to David Spangler. They were both of Jefferson Co KY and it was "in consideration of the tract of land containing [564.5] acres conveyed by a deed bearing date of this day to the said Richard Terrell and called and known by the name of Abbots Station" - in other words, they traded land.

| CAUTION | Supposedly related to Rev John Marshall the Episcopal Bishop. Is he the same person as the Chief Justice who was born in Fauquier County, Virginia on September 24, 1755. Some have the Chief Justice as John M's grandfather through his son Thomas, but that is not accurate because Thomas's son married Mary Walters Ambler. I have yet to find a Rev John Marshall. Besides, what is my source for "Rev"? Source #1100 (daughter's record) just says "famous John Marshal" | |
